1. Tighten your gas cap.
If you have a typical gas cap, make sure you secure it by twisting until it clicks 3 times. If it's loose, gas vapor will be constantly leaking out. This could cause the check engine light to come on as well. If you constantly smell gas, you may need a new gas cap.
2. Drive sensibly.
Unnecessary erratic braking and taking off can cost you up to 68 cents more per gallon than someone who drives more smoothly. So ease into braking and taking off, anticipate the flow of traffic, and pocket those savings!
3. Ease off the gas pedal.
Do you ride with your foot on the brake? If you kick the habit, you can save about 1.35 cents per gallon and that can really add up over time.
4. Change your air filter.
About one in four cars have a dirty air filter. By simply swapping it out for a new one, you can increase your fuel efficiency by as much as 10%, saving about 33 cents per gallon.
5. Slow down.
Driving slower is more fuel efficient. In fact, for every 5 mph you reduce your speed, your fuel efficiency improves by 7%. If you usually drive 70 mph on the highway and slow down to 65 mph, you can save as much 27 cents a gallon!
6. Get your wheels aligned.

The axle assemblies in your vehicle transfer power out to the drive wheels. On a rear-wheel drive vehicle, there is an axle shaft that goes from the differential in the center of the axle to each rear wheels. On a front-wheel drive vehicle, the axle shafts go from the transmission to each front-wheel. All-wheel drive vehicles have axle shafts connected to all four wheels.
Axles assemblies are pretty tough parts: they transfer torque from the engine to the wheels to move the vehicle. Tough as they are, they are still subject to normal wear and tear. The axle shafts are in a sealed housing with lubricant that protects the axle shaft. When there is a leak anywhere in the axle assembly, lubricant gets out and dirt, water, and other contaminates can get in. This can greatly accelerate axle wear. If an axle assembly fails, you’re not going anywhere.
A worn or damaged axle assembly on the front will make a clunking sound during low speed turns – often just when turning one way. A worn rear axle also makes noise, but may be more difficult for the driver to hear. Also, if you see any oily leaks around your wheels, have it checked out.

Well, a broken timing belt can lead to one of the most expensive engine repairs a driver will ever face. The good news is that replacing your timing belt on its recommended schedule can help avoid those problems. Here's a brief overview of what the timing belt does:
Air is drawn into the cylinder of the engine through the intake valves. After the air and fuel mixture is burned, it's pushed out through the exhaust valves. The timing belt, which is driven by the engine, turns the camshafts which control when the intake and exhaust valves open and close. It is that the opening and closing of the valves take place at exactly the right time for the engine to run properly.
Beyond that, on some vehicle engines the valves actually extend into the combustion chamber far enough that they can be hit by the piston as it moves up and down in the cylinder. When everything is timed just right – no problem. When the timing is off, the piston will slam into the valves and cause big damage for Dallas drivers.
The timing belt makes sure everything is timed just right. However, the belt does have a useful life. Beyond that it can break or slip – and that's when the damage can be done. If your vehicle has a timing belt (some have metal timing chains) it will have a recommended interval for replacing it. Be sure to check your owner's manual or with your Technician at Pasour Auto Repair Service to make sure you know when your timing belt needs to be replaced: there is a lot at stake.
Now, getting to the timing belt requires a lot of labor so it is service item, but it is certainly less than repairing a damaged engine. Our customers often ask questions about the cooling system – the system that cools your vehicle engine and keeps it at the proper operating temperature. Let’s examine the topic in two areas: first, the coolant itself and, second, the parts that make up the cooling system.
The coolant is the mix of water and antifreeze that circulates through the engine to draw off heat. First, you need to have the proper amount. You need the required amount of coolant to keep your vehicle cool.
You also need the right kind of coolant. Different makes of vehicles require different coolant formulation to protect against corrosion.
Finally, your coolant needs to be fresh. Over time and miles of driving, the anti-corrosion additives in the coolant are depleted and the coolant can actually start to eat away at the vehicle's cooling system parts. Now let’s talk about the cooling system components. These will all eventually wear out and need to be replaced. We also see radiator pressure caps that can no longer hold the proper pressure. We recommend replacing pressure caps when you change your coolant to avoid this problem. We see leaky water pumps and hoses that need to be replaced. There’s also a part called the thermostat that opens and closes to regulate the flow of coolant. Sometimes they stick open or closed and the cooling system won’t work properly.
